1/2" wide channel balance

A home owner from Brush Prairie, WA says:

I have 27" long (steel part) balances. They are stamped with the number 2640.

They are for single hung sash windows. They resemble your S370. I would really

like to get some replacements. Please advise on what to order.

Thank you,

Tom

We have dozens of different balances with that stamp. It's not a product code or anything, it just indicates the strength of the spring.

In order to figure out what Series this is, I need you to remove an undamaged version of this balance from the window and show me clear pictures of the top and bottom nylon fittings. I will also need to know the dimensions of these fittings. The video below will go into more detail.

Hi Tom,

Attached photos of my 27" long (metal to metal) balances.

Hope this works.

Thank you,

Tom

Thank you so much, this information is exactly what we needed. I believe you want the S385-27 channel balance. This shoe is 1-3/32" deep, not 1-1/16", but I think that yours likely was once 1-3/32" and just wore down from years of use. I see it all the time.

Please let me know if you had any other questions!

A home owner from Brush Prairie, WA says:
Hi Tom,

The S385-27 appears to come with a winged bottom shoe. I saw some
balances with a 15-001 shoe (1 1/16" wide), that looks more like mine.

What do you think?

Thanks,
Tom

Tom from SWISCO responded:

I'm so sorry for the mixup. I actually thought your bottom shoe had wings, based on these images, but I guess it was just a trick of the angle. If it doesn't, then you want the S395-27 instead. This has a 19-005 top and 15-001 shoe. Let me know what you think!
