17-012 bracket, but connected differently

Quick Learner
Hello. I recently replaced my spiral balances and brackets. In most cases the old brackets had rusted through.

The only difference between the original brackets and the 17-012 is that the two hooks that retain the balance end are connected with a piece of metal on the old bracket and the 32 has an additional screw hole. See attached photo.

What is happening is it appears the new brackets are striking the side of the frame when the window is closed and bending. This is causing scrapes on the frame and eventually the bracket is becoming bent, which causes the balance to come loose.

Is there a different type of bracket I should be using or a modification I could make to the #32 to correct this issue?

Thank you.

It looks like you have an older model bracket. The new 17-012 comes open in the back to make it easier to attach it to the spiral balance. The extra hole doesn't necessary need to be used. It's just there in case one of the other holes are worn out.

As for The rubbing and scraping, try attaching the brackets a little further back on the sash and see if that helps.
