20 yr old Simonton double sash window

Quick Learner from Los Angeles

I have a 20 yr old Simonton double sash window that's always had the wrong, inadequate balance coils. I don't know the model # of the window, and it would be useless providing you with the coil # since they are clearly the wrong ones.

What data do you need to point me toward the right replacement coils?

thank you,

Paul

Thanks for reaching out! I am confident that we can get you set up with the correct replacement coils, however, I'll need to see a photo of the pivot shoe, preferably removed from the window. There are a few different shoes that can be used for Simonton brand windows and the photos will help to narrow down the possible recommendations.

I'll also need to know the exact weight of the sash.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Jasmine,
Thanks for getting back to me so quickly.
The upper sash (33.5" wide x 27" high x 1.5" thick) weighs 21 lbs.
The lower sash (33.5" wide x 27" high x 1.75" thick)weighs 22.5 lbs.
Two photos are of the lower sash shoe. It looks like part# 801020
The upper shoes are so wrecked, I couldn't see any #, they are smaller and obviously the wrong ones.
The third photo is of the missing part on the upper surface of the sash that slides in and out and keeps the sash in the track. Can you provide me with one of those?
Thanks, Paul

Thanks for the photos. They do give an idea of what might be in the window, however, I'll need to see the coil assembly removed to recommend the correct replacement. Unfortunately, the part number provided does not help to identify the part you need and I cannot narrow it down based on the coil balance cover.

You'll also need to have the parts removed to confirm measurements and to see the stamps/markings on the metal coil. The stamp is what will indicate the spring strength you'll need for the coil to support the weight of the window.

In regard to the missing tilt latch, I believe our 26-243 and its opposite handed version, part 26-244. If the measurements are not a match, I'll need to see a photo of your existing latches.
