24" 3/8 Balance with black tip

A quick learner from Anaheim, California says:
The 24" pair of balances I am replacing definitely have a black tip. They are about 20+ years old. The picture of the replacement shows a red tip. Please assist in clarifying this difference.

It would depend on the weight of your sash. Can you please confirm what that is? You can determine this by placing the sash on a scale. Can you also confirm the diameter of the tube? If your tip is black, I wonder if it might actually have a 5/8" diameter. They don't make a 3/8" balance with a black tip.

I went ahead and ordered the 24", 3/8 red tip balance. I am gambling that 20+ years ago these balances were not color coded. I will share the outcome, and the weight of the sash, after I install the balances.
