2540X and 2520v window channel balances

You have the old and discontinued Silverline Swinger window. We can help replace these balances, though it's a bit involved. These are special balances in that they are asymmetrical; that is, the balance on one side of the sash won't be the same as the other. Fortunately, thanks to your pictures we have all the information we need. Can you just tell me how many of each you need?

Sure, start by looking at our 15-058. This may be a match. We have others, but start with this and see if it's the same. You may want to remove yours from the window to confirm.

We can still supply these balances, yes, but only as a custom order. To begin, I'll need you to send me two batches of photos, one for each balance in your window. Each batch requires the following shots:

• Top end
• Bottom end
• Stamp

The stamps will be different, as well the configuration of plastic fittings, so it's important to differentiate one balance from the other. Getting them mixed up will only make this project more difficult.

It's also necessary to use undamaged balances as a reference. The balance sin your photos, for instance, are too broken to properly ID. It's best to use another window in the house that has the same hardware, if possible.

Gotcha, thanks. This is the configuration I was expecting so we're on the right track. What you have here is what I call an 'asymmetrical' balance system, commonly used on old hinged windows like yours. I don't know what they're actually called as they're not made anymore, but this term has served me well so far.

Basically the right side is different from the left side. One of the balances usually has a top plastic fitting and a bottom plastic fitting, as well as a stamp that ends in "30." The other side usually has a top plastic fitting and NO bottom fitting, with a stamp that ends in "40." In your case, 2840.

Can you just verify that this is the case for you? I can't quite tell. In other words, I guess I'm just asking if the 2840 balance you need to replace has a bottom plastic fitting or not, or if it has both the top and bottom. Sometimes the manufacturer swaps them so it can change.
