26-147 keeps window from fully closing

I purchased several parts numbered: 26-147. The part might work well in a way I am not able to figure out. I have the sliding vertical windows except the window wouldn't close entirely when the handle was in the place needed. Is there an alternative way to alter the window frame etc. so I may try this part? The window needs to use the depth to close and this handle reduces the depth. Thank you in advance for your help.
