27 1/2 3 Caldwell FM Balance

A quick learner from Maryland (MD) says:

I have a set of window balances and the only stamp I can find on them is 27 1/2 3 Caldwell FM. I need to know what the series is or something. Thanks.

The only stamp I can see on my balances is 27 1/2" 3 Camden FM. Could you please help with what I would need to purchase. But I also measured just the silver bar which is 28 1/2" and 1/2" width. Thanks.

Thanks for posting. This looks like our Series 385 channel balance, but that length indicates it will have to be specially made. Can you just tell me how many you need? Once we know that, I'll email you an order link and price quote for the requested quantity.

Thanks for getting back to me. So I guess the 27 1/2" on the channel is not the actual size of balances. I just need two for one window that is non-tilt. Thanks.

That's right, stamps like these are a little goofy. Ordinarily, the first two digits indicate the height of the visible glass, which is one inch length than the actual length of the balance. I'm not sure if that applies to your balance, but I can tell you that a 28-1/2" long balance with a 27-1/2-3 stamp is normal.

The stamp our balances use will be 28305 instead, which should make a little more sense. I'll email you an order link for 2 right now.
