27B Window Balance ID

Hi,

Can you identify the replacement needed for the channel balance on the photos? It measures 28''L and just over 1/2'' W but the model says 27B USB.

Thank you for your correspondence. Looks like you have Series 390 Channel Balance. This kind of balance comes assembled with a 19-002 top nylon attachment and a 15-001 bottom nylon attachment. This bottom nylon attachment has a depth of 1-1/8" depth; please compare this dimension with your old part to be sure. If so, you would order S390-28 with a stamp option of 2720. This corresponds to a window sash weight range of 9 through 13 lbs. Let us know what you think.

Thank you for your response. I've verified the bottom depth of 1-1/8'', so I ordered the parts today. Thanks!

Hi,

The channel balance arrived today and I was able to install all of them, except one of the hooks didn't catch properly and got stuck on the upper half of the channel when I installed it and I lifted the window a few times. I tried to remove the window the way I did it before but unsuccessfully. Can you help me figure out how to put the hook back in?

I checked out some other posts on this website and was able to fix this issue. However, I have another longer window of the same type whose channel balance is stuck. Can you help me figure out how to remove it so I can order and install a new one?

Nice job getting the first balance working! As far as the balance stuck in your other window, could you give us a little more detail on how it is stuck? A picture would also be very helpful. We'll see what we can do for you. Thanks.

Thanks for your quick reply. It would be easiest to take a picture but last time I opened the window it was nearly impossible to close it again so let's try a verbal description first. I recall that the channel balance has come loose on the bottom side of the window, but I can't remove the channel. Does this help or what other details would you be looking for?

OK I was able to take the channel balance out. The balance looks just like the pictures I sent in the first message of this thread except the length is 34''. Can you confirm that the parts I need to order are S390-34 with a stamp option of 3320?

Great! If the nylon attachments are the same as your other balance, then the Series 390 would be our best guess, yes. To be honest, though, without actually seeing it then that's pretty much all I can say. You will ultimately have to use your best judgement.

If the top matches our 19-002 and the bottom matches our 15-001, then the Series 390 will work. Carefully look over our pictures and measurements. If they differ in any way, we have to see it.

OK thanks. What about the stamp option of 3320? Is there an easy way to determine the stamp option?

I'm not sure I understand. If your stamp is 3320, then you would choose our 3320 option. You match what's stamped on your balance to the options shown on our S390-34 store page.

If you're in a situation where you don't know what your stamp is, then you can weigh your sash and refer to the chart shown on each balance's store page.
