28" balance identification

Question

Current balances are mixed 27-3 on one side and 27-4 on the other. Sashes weigh 22lb. The closest I can find is S395-28, but that has 15-001 (1-1/8" deep) bottom fitting which is deeper than my 1.093" ones. What do you recommend? Do you think it's necessary to mix -3 and -4, or can I just buy -4 to replace any broken -3 & -4?

Thanks for writing in! I do believe the S395-28 is the correct replacement for your balances. Given that your shoe depth is over 1", it is likely that it has just been worn down due to wear and tear.

The stamps on the balance denote the weight range a particular balance shoe be able to support. Since your stamp ratings differ from ours, I cannot be sure of their exact weight range. That being said, I would suggest replacing both balances at once; especially since the stamps differ from one another.

You'll need to select the 2740 stamp option which will support a sash weighing 19 to 26lbs.
