2940 BSI Channel Balance

Handy Person from Florida

Hi Swisco team, thank you for all your super informative and succinct videos! I moved a bit quickly and didn't get a photo of these two in action, but they were a mess. The one without the spring (no idea where that went...moved in about 3 months ago) had fallen down and the one with a spring was stuck at the top of the window frame, I had to push it down to get it below the take-out clip so I could take the window pane out.

My question is, do I need to replace both channel balances? And what channel balance should I buy from you all to replace them with? These are 1/2" in width and 30" long with a 2940 BSI marking, I saw in another post you recommended your Series 390 or 351 but I wanted to be absolutely sure I'm buying the right thing. Thank you for all your help, I'm excited to be able to open my window!

Hi there!

Thank you for reaching out to us. Yes, you always want to replace your balances in pairs. Pairing a new balance with an old one would cause the new balance to wear out a lot faster since it'd have to pick up the slack for the older hardware.

We can help supply your type of balance but it will have to be a custom order due to its configuration. The pulley wheel is built into the bottom fitting itself and this balance features an extended cord travel as well as a metal channel length ending in 5/8" which is what makes it custom. For example, the metal channel should measure 29-5/8" long. Can you double-check that for us? Custom orders are nonrefundable so we'd like to be certain. Can you also tell me the number of balances you're looking to replace?

We don't recommend the Series 390 or any of our stock balances to replace what you have here. The configuration is too different and they wouldn't work, unfortunately.
