39-114L handle coming loose

Question

We have a window the this kind of handle with a set screw in it.  When I crank to window open (turn to the left) it works fine. However, when I crank it to the right to close the window it unwinds and come all apart in my hand.  Thank you.

It sounds like your operator is broken. That worm gear you describe is not meant to come out and it means that the gears have been stripped out. Since it's machine-pressed in at the factory, there is no repairing it. We can help you replace the operator, but we will need to see pictures of it removed from the window.
