5.727.877 crossbow balance

I am attempting to replace a crossbow balance, but am having trouble finding the correct length. The side of the part balance has 5.737.877 on the side. The measured the crossbow balance and from the top of the rod to the black shoe it measures at 28 1/4. I believe I need a series 850 crossbow balance, but i couldn't find the correct length. Am I measuring this incorrectly?

I'm afraid the Series 850 is no longer made in that size. This style of balance is being phased out and isn't really used anymore. Fortunately, you can use our S795-28 as a replacement. There are just a couple things to consider.

First, the S795-28 comes with a 15-195 shoe by default, which is 1-1/4" wide. it looks like you have the smaller 1" wide shoe, so I would recommend purchasing our 15-194 separately. See the video below for instructions on how you can put this shoe on the S795-28 balance.

Next comes the stamp. Basically, this just indicates the strength of the spring. You will have to weigh your sash on a scale and refer to the chart on the S795-28 store page to confirm the proper stamp option.

Another issue is that your old pivot bar won't work with the new balance. You'll also need a new 26-021 pivot bar.

Finally, keep in mind our S795-28 installs at the top using a screw tab. If your old balance uses a hook, let me know. Your new balance may have to be specially made.
