58-198 Wool Pile Base wasn't big enough. Advice?

Hi,

I finally tryed to install the pile weather stripping on the fixed track for my sliding glass door. The 3/16 inch base was too small, and would not snap into the track. Do have any larger base (about 1/4 inch)?

Hello and thanks for contacting SWISCO. Sorry to hear you are having trouble installing new wool pile weather stripping. We will try our best to find a better match, but we have nothing in this style with a 1/4" base. Can you double check the measurements of the width of the base and the height of the pile? Be precise as you can, even into the 1/32" range. Thank you.

I tryed a 1/4 inch strip of plastic, and it snapped into the groove, and did not fall out. Therefore, a 1/4 inch base is perfect.

The exact space that needs to be filled by the pile is 11/32. So if the pile is a bit larger than 11/32, there would be some interference and a tighter fit.

You know, we have a 58-105 wool pile that is 9/32" wide by 11/32" high. I recommend you request a sample of the 58-105 from our Sample Page, then give it a try and see if it works. The sample is free of charge, you would only pay for shipping. Let us know what you think.

I purchased a sample of 58-105. The pile height was good, but the base of 9/32 was impossible to fit in the track. I think a .25 base would be better.

Is there a recommended technique or a tool to install the material into the track?

I'm afraid we don't have anything with an 11/32" height that also has a width in less than 9/32". What precisely is the problem? Is the base simply too wide to slide into the track from the side? If so, then your only option may be to take a blade and trim a little off of one, or both, sides. I've done this before but it can be frustrating. It just takes a steady hand and a lot of patience.

The problem is I can not get to the side of the track, to slide it in. I have to force it into the track from the front.

If the base was smaller, I "might" be able to jam it in from the front.

Hm, do you have a sample of the original wool pile that was in there? If you could show us a picture of its end profile and confirm its base x pile height dimensions, that might help us identify the right fit.
