600 Spiral Tilt Window Balance red, Does not keep the window up.

Home Owner from USA
Hello, I purchased a set of 30" Series 600 Spiral Tilt Window Balance red tip last month and note the window was replaced as well. I replaced the old balances and wound them with the plenty of tension and the window simply does not stay open. Note: I had the parts identified by a professional.

-Could this be due to the extreme cold new England winter as the glass may need to expand or do I need to move up to a black tip?
It seems the balances are almost too greasy and wonder if there is a break in period.

If you wound the balances up enough times and the window still droops, then it may indeed be time to upgrade. Before I say anything for sure, though, can you confirm the weight of the sash?

I don't the exact weight but it is 33x28 insulated 1/8 inch w/ grids. It is heavy and difficult to handle on a very old building.

Based on your response I will upgrade to black and will assume the same pivot shoes (replaced those as well)

Thank you for the quick reply and will let you know the result.

I highly recommend confirming the weight of the sash before you upgrade, just in case. The S600-30 has a list of each color tip and how much weight they can support. You can cross-reference the weight of your sash with those options to see which is best.
