The existing plastic clip is attached by a rivit. Can the
rivit be drilled out and attached with the phillips screw
shown?

Hello! The process you've described is fairly common. I know many service people who install the 70-207 clip in the exact same way. Just note that you may have to drill a new hole for the screw.

I have used aluminum pop rivets shying away from the galvanized steel screws and dissimilar metal reaction and corresponding rust. Aluminum pin (?)should pop before it gets too tight to turn after installing. drill just head off taking care not to enlarge existing hole in screen frame.

Hello Home Owner in Central Illinois, what size rivet did you use? I read 5/32" but I haven't tried yet. Thank you.

I suggest not tightening the rivet till it breaks, it will be too tight and may crack the plastic. tighten the rivet sufficiently to hold the clip then snip the rivet with pliers.
