81-095 vs. 81-030

A Google search for parts for an American Craftsman 5500 series door brought me here. The 81-095 looks like the correct roller (based on the rusted out one I removed), but is out of stock. Is the 81-030 functionally the same part?

Thanks for posting. The difference is that the 81-030 has wheels with a diameter of 1-1/4", as compared to the 1-1/2" diameter of the 81-095 wheels. The 81-030 might still work for you, as you can adjust the wheels to make up a +/- 1/4" difference in that diameter; just be certain all the other dimensions match your old hardware to be safe.

Is there a way of determining roller size with out taking door off. Getting cold here and door is failing.

I am afraid not. With rare exception, it's pretty much impossible to pinpoint the exact replacement roller without knowing the original's exact dimensions. Worst comes to worst, you could always rollers and return any that don't work--see our Return Policy here.
