82-042 screws

I ordered and received your 82-042 pull and it is the correct part; it works perfectly with my existing interior handle. Problem is that one of the original screws was damaged and replacements suggested by "big box" clerk are either too long or too short. I know I need #8-32 and have purchased 2" and 2 1/2" stainless machine screws with round and pan heads. I think the 2" is right, but wonder if the head is the issue. Can you advise me? Thanks for your input.
