82-080 Mortise Handle Set question

A home owner from California says:
Is there anything I need to do to existing lock before replacement? Lock shouldn't be damaged but can't get to engage. Any tricks? Thx!

This is a very good question. When customers come to us with this type of question, we'd like to give a few pointers on what to look for when their current lock is giving them some trouble. You want to check your patio door to make sure the wheels are adjusted properly and the door is plumb to the jamb. Have a look at the keeper. Sometimes it may need to be adjusted up or down. You may even need to pack out the keeper with a few metal washers. If none of these options are the issue, then completely remove the handle and mortise lock from the door. Once you remove them, try activating the lock using a flat blade screw driver. Review everything and see if one of these options help you with your handle set. Get back to us and let us know how you make out.
