82-081 keyed handleset will not turn lock

Hi, after some research, I purchased the 82-081 keyed handleset but the flat piece of metal that is supposed to turn the lock does not engage the square drive that the lock has. Do I need another part?

Hi and thanks for contacting SWISCO. Sorry to hear that your keyed handle set is not operating correctly. To help, I will need a little more information. What happens when you turn your key? Does it turn but the lock never engages, or can you not turn the key at all? How about the thumb latch on the inside handle. Is it still operating normally? This will help us determine whether there is simply something wrong with installation, or if your mortise lock may have an issue. Thanks.

If the tail is long enough to reach the inside lever, the most likely problem is misalignment. Try removing the inside pull and lever. by a little trial and error you should be able to find a working position without removing the mounting plate. I would try to explain, but it comes down to trying a bunch of variables. It should make sense when you see for yourself what is happening inside.
