82-218 Mortise Lock Issues

Tried to install Mortis lock 82-218. Watched the video, and did exactly as shown. I can't get the lock to be flush to the door. Used vice grips to pull it through but the rim of the hole seems to thick and won't allow me to pull it flush. As a result, I'm that short of the lock grabbing the catch. Video was perfect, for some reason, I can't get it flush. Tried at least a dozen times. The original lock fell inside door when I removed it. Didn't know the trick then but I do now. Pretty sure this is the correct lock. 3-11/16" and 1/2" wide. Any suggestions ?

I have a few ideas. One would be that the cutout in the door needs to be filed just a little to allow the mortise lock to come flush with the door. This can be done with a file, but you have to be careful since if you go too far, you've ruined the hole. If you want to try that you have to do it a little bit at a time, just to be safe.
Also check to see if the 82-218 is hitting anywhere on the cut out. If that is not the issue take a look at the video below that shows you how to use the slotted adjustment screw to bring the locking hook out further from the door. That may help make up for the difference.

Thanks Tom, I adjusted the latch hook all the way out and it was just enough to catch the keeper. I had played with it earlier but must not have turned it quite enough. Works great now. Thanks again for your help.
