Acorn Brand Screen Door

Question

Hello,
I have purchased some regular rollers from you before for my Acorn sliding doors if that helps identify my Acorn model, but I am now having trouble with my sliding door screen rollers. It “appears” that two of my four rollers have issues. I am sending a short video of one spring that works and one that seems to be missing a spring and also will not fold back into the frame for some reason. ??? I am assuming that all four rollers are identical.
There is another roller (not shown on video) that is just frozen in the frame and does not move at all that “appears” to be like the others.
Any help would be appreciated. I am guessing to install them the frame needs to come apart right? Thanks for your help!
I pulled out the one that was falling apart that “appears” it is missing the flat spring that I see on the other three rollers, but I don’t know if I am pulling this whole thing apart properly. Should more be coming out of the frame other than the roller shown and a missing flat spring? Your videos did not look like mine. The first pic is the channel after I pulled out the broken roller missing the flat spring. The second pic shows where I pulled the roller off of (see two red arrows) Those two spots (red arrows) went into the two holes on the end of that roller that are side by side (parallel). I pried that off if that’s the proper way to remove it. ???? Doesn’t seem right, but I don’t see any fasteners at all anywhere…….

I have a few more questions for you. Part 84-142 that you have does look like the part I have and the measurements you “show” on your website are the same as the one I removed from my door, but I have found that there are some out there that have the same measurements and look the same that just do not do not fit.

1. Is your model 84-142 a Brixwell 10-368 Patio Screen Door Nylon Roller Assembly since it looks just like it? Because if it is, it will not fit since I have tried it along with help from someone else and although it looks just like it and the measurements they show for it are the same as mine as well as the measurements on your website it just will not fit!

2. What is your return policy if it does not fit?

What I am finding is that although a Brixwell 10-368 looks the same as my original rollers and measures that same just like yours does, from a side view there is a difference that really makes it impossible to install. If you look at the side view of the two photos I am attaching you will see that the gap that is pointed to with a red arrow is different. That part has a couple holes on the sides (not shown) that snaps onto the aluminum frame and that is what holds it in You have the spread that gap apart to snap it onto a couple “pegs” that are part of the aluminum Frame. Even thought the gap doesn’t look that much different, it is VERY hard to even get the original ones back in after you pull one out, but trying to spread that tighter gap wider is next to impossible as well as when you do finally succeed in spreading it (You have to spread it almost 1/4 inch!) it stretches the entire roller assembly wider so much that it won’t even go into the aluminum screen door frame. Can you get a pic of the side view of your 84-142 or a real accurate measurement of that gap pointed to by my red arrow. The left photo is my original Acorn 800 Sliding door screen roller and the right one is a Brixwell 10-368 Patio Screen Door Nylon Roller Assembly Gray that I see in several places on the internet. Hope I have not confused you!

Thank you for your patience during this incredibly busy season. I apologize for the long wait.

I agree that your old screen door roller appears to be a match for our 84-142, but I cannot verify whether it's the Brixwell part you mentioned. That's not a brand I've ever heard of, and as a general rule we don't have access to the records of other companies.

What I can tell you is that the 84-142 is a notoriously frustrating roller to work with. It is indeed very hard to snap onto the corner peg, but the bad news is that there's no trick or secret to get around that. It's just plumb difficult to work with. This is probably my least favorite door to work on for that reason.

I do think our 84-142 is the best part for the job in your case, I doubt you'll find anything better. Just understand that it's going to be difficult to install. Expect that you'll scrape a knuckle or two, but with patience and perseverance it should snap on.

Otherwise, we don't have any other options we can offer you. This is currently the only roller we sell in this design. If that doesn't fit, we have nothing else that will.
