Add a keyed lock on the outside

Need to add an outside lock for this patio door handle.  I have not taken it off because I'm not sure how to take it apart, but I suspect the two pins seen 4 inches apart from the inside view pop off somehow?

Hello! This looks like a typical patio glass door handle set. I am very confident that our 82-310 will work for you, but there are a couple things to keep in mind.

First, it takes a bit of handiwork to install a key lock on this kind of handle set. You need to be prepared to knock out the center punch in the exterior handle at minimum, and in some cases you may need to drill a hole for the key lock in the door (or widen the hole that's already there).

Additionally, you need to make sure that the center punch in the exterior handle aligns with the slot in the mortise lock that actually interfaces with the key lock. The last thing you want to do is install the key lock only to see that it's too high for the mortise. Make sure to remove the handle set ahead of time and ensure that everything lines up properly before you buy or drill anything.

As for how to remove the handle set, it's probably screwed in. I would imagine that the screw heads are covered by those white caps on the interior handle. You'll need to find a way to pop those off to access the screws.

Tom,

Thanks for your comments.  I found some time and checked per your instructions and confirmed that the center punch in the exterior handle is misaligned with the slot in the mortise lock, and my new photos show this.  I agree that the 82-310 key lock will work, but I will need an offset keyed handle to replace the centered key handle that I have.  It looks like the 82-030B will work, but can you confirm that before I go ahead and order it?  The approximate center to center distance from the top hole to the mortise lock is 2-3/4" as shown in one of the new photos.

Also, the color of the existing door and handle is a cream color.  Do you have a matching color?  If not, I'll go with the white.

Thanks,

Greg

I'm glad you checked! That was a smart move. But yes, with the offset hole in the door, our 82-030B will be your best bet. This should be fully compatible with your door and everything ought to line up without issue. Just note that the holes that take the key lock may not be wide enough, since this door was evidently not made to use one. Our hardware will still work, but if you find that there's not enough room for the key lock to fit then you can fix that by just widening the hole with a rat tail file.

Regarding color, I'm afraid that beige is the closest option we have to the original. This handle set is not made in cream, unfortunately.
