Adding a Keyed Lock

Home Owner from Barrie, Ontario, Canada

What do I need to convert this existing non-keyed lock patio door handset to an (exterior) keyed lock set.

The screws on the interior handle are 3 15/16 inches apart.

I don't know the maker of the door.

The door lock is a double latch.

Thanks

Ron

Hey, Ron. If your old handle set is in good condition then you can just knock out that center punch in your exterior pull and install our 82-310 key lock. I am confident that this will be compatible with your existing hardware.

In the video it shows 2 screws used to hold the lock set in place. Is that a common generalize mounting practice. Are the screws and a retaining plate included with the 82-310.? Or are they part of my outside door handle?

Don't worry about that video, that's not relevant for your door. The mounting bracket is physically built into your original handle. The 82-310 is just a key cylinder, but that's all you need. Your exterior handle is equipped to install it as-is.
