Adjustment of 32-012

Question

I ordered these rear drawer adjustable sockets.  They arrived today.  Silly question, but how do you adjust them?  Do you really just force the piece to move?  I did this on one of them and it just messes up the plastic teeth and ridges.

I have used our 32-012 rear drawer sockets on my own kitchen cabinets. I adjusted them by rocking the extension left and right before I screwed it to the back wall, and even after I installed it in place.
