American Craftsman Window Balance

Quick Learner from Tallahassee Florida
This sash balance is from a Anderson  American Craftson window purchased at Home Depo. Can you provide the correct part numbers to order for the left and right side. It has a number (10) on the side so I assume it is a 10 lb balance. The window may have been home depo # 204781459. The window may be 10 years old.

Hello! We do sell the components of this coil balance assembly, but they're only available separately. See our 15-087 pivot carrier, Series 180 coil spring, and 16-031 mounting bracket.

For a 10 pound spring, I suggest the S180-10. One of these on each side carries a sash weight of 10 pounds.

Do these parts work for the left and right sides?  I thought there were seperate part numbers for the left and right sides?  Is there a video that shows hopw to take apart the shoe and insert the new coil?

Nope, this assembly can work for right and left handed applications interchangeably.

As for a video, we unfortunately do not have one at this time, but there is one currently in development. We don't have an ETA on it but we do hope to have it up in the future.

To summarize it, what you're going to need to do is use a flathead screwdriver to gently pry up the side tongs you see near the bottom of the housing. These are what keeps the shoe together. While you're prying that up, use your other hand to split the two halves. It'll be a little awkward, so don't get frustrated if you don't get it at first. It'll feel like you need three hands to get it open, but it should split with a little persistence.
