Amerimax, Craftsman Portrait series vinyl single hung windows

Question

The latch is on a 47" SH window. You list several. Do I need to measure the existing? Also, if you look at the picture, it shows the spring holder is above the top of the window frame which caused the latch to break. Can the window spring holder be lowered below the window top?
The 2nd & 3rd pictures are the window balance spring for a 24" wide SH window. The spring came out of the holder. Can it just be put back in? If not I need one. I did not see this type in your pictures. Please advise. Thanks

Hello,

It seems the side jambs were made for a taller sash. You should be able to lower the coil spring support so that it doesn't interfere with the top tilt latches. To do that, with the sash closed, mark the top of the sash with a pencil on the track to show where you want the coil support to be. Then raise the sash about six inches from the sill, tilt the sash in, and swing it out from the pivot shoes. Use a slotted screwdriver to rotate the metal center cam and turn the cam up to release the brake. Next, hold on to the screwdriver to help raise the pivot shoe slowly to prevent it from shooting up and breaking the nylon coil spring housing. From there, you can drill a hole and lower the coil spring housing so the top tilt latch is above it. See our related media guides to assist you.

As for identifying your tilt latch, we can't be sure based on a damaged latch but the 26-243A and 26-244A would be a good place to start. Review the measurements below compared to yours.
