Does the 11600-17 code identify my Andersen sash balance?

Home Owner from Erial, NJ
Hi,

I'm trying to repair an old Andersen window where the sash balancer has failed.

I've removed the balancers. I'm trying to find part numbers but the metal is tarnished (discolored) and the numbers are difficult to read.

What I've attached pictures.

It appears to me the part numbers are 11600-17.
The windows is double hung and the lower glass pane measures 28 1/2 wide by 14 high.
I figure it's about 25 years old.

I also see a number stamped on both balancers:

BJ9 5#23 3-87

I need the left and right balancers.

Thanks
Mike

Hi Mike, thanks for the great photos! This information is a huge help for us.

To start, the code '11600-17' actually isn't the most crucial stamp here, as it can be found on a variety of different Andersen balances. Fortunately, thanks to the very helpful and detailed information you've gathered here, we can see that the pertinent stamp is the code 5#23. This indicates you need our 24-531 Andersen Sash Balance. This can replace old Andersen balances that include the stamp code 523, or '5#23'.

Please also note that these replacements can be used for both the left and righthand side.

Let me know if you have further questions. We're always happy to help!

Hello,

I too have Anderson Windows that are about 25 years old and I need to replace the sash balancers. The only number that I see stamped on the originals is 11600-17. Can I also use the 24-531?

Thank you!

I'm afraid that the 11600-17 stamp doesn't correspond to anything; that specific code appears on a bunch of different Andersen balances and isn't used for identification purposes.

There should be more stamps on the box. We're looking for a code that contains a "#" symbol, though that isn't always present. I recommend sending pictures of each stamp on the balance box to show us. I feel confident that we can pick it out for you and find the best replacement for your application.

Thanks Tom for getting back to me so fast. Upon further review, I can barely read the bumber 627 stamped on the very edge of the flange and bent by the staple. In looking at the website, I believe that item number 24-637 should be the replacement. Is this correct?

Thanks again. Gary

Hello! Thanks for submitting these photos. I see you have the "9#27" stamp printed on your old balance. As it turns out, our 24-939 Andersen sash balance will replace any older balance box with that stamp.

Please feel free to reach out if we can offer any further assistance.

Numbers are 11600-17, 1600 A 3, 531 and 131 700, so I'm assuming it should be 531, #24-531? Thanks.

Thanks for posting! If your Andersen sash balance has a "531" stamp, then we recommend the 24-531, yes. The 24-531 is designed to replace any older balance with that same stamp.

Hi there! I believe that the 24-737 Andersen balance should work for you. This replaces older Andersen balances that include the stamp code 7#27 or 727.

I too have a "11600 17" units that need replacing which I now know means nothing so I wonder why that's always the easiest number to read on the unit. :)
One says of mine says S27 6032 9-88 on the body. The other just says S27 9-88 on the staple tab. Neither seems to give any useful google results. Wondering what model I need. See included photos. Thank you in advance for your time.

Thanks for these photos! They're a huge help.

The first photo's balance has a stamp that appears to read "S27 1031" to me. 1031 is the operative code here, which suggests you need the 24-1033 balance.

It appears the second balance has a similar stamp on its bottom edge, but it's hard to make out. Can you please show me a clearer picture of that stamp?

Sure! Since your old balance has the "12#27" stamp, I suggest using our 24-1231, which is meant to replace old Andersen balances with that code.

What replacement balancer should I use for both the right and left side? Looks like the #'s on each side are a little different, but the balancer looks the same. These windows are from 89/90.

Hello,

Take a look at the 24-L10-1427, which can be used to replace balance boxes with an L10 1427 stamp code. See SWISCO product code 24-R14-1027 for the right-handed balance for this window.

I have 2/different size windows with broken sash balances. 2@ 22"W x 53"H, other is wider.
There were 2 different number combos on the 22"x53" windows: 11600-17, BJ95#27-3-87
11600-3, 3335455
The number combo on the wider window is: 11600-17, 074 7#27 12-86

Please tell me what I need and where I can order them. Also if there not available are there any others that would work? Thank you, Dyan

Hello,

Your balances with 7#27 stamped on them would be replaced by the 24-737. As for your balances stamped with 5#27, see the 24-531

Thanks for posting and please feel free to reach out with any other questions!

Hi,

This is the Andersen sash balancer removed from the window. Here is the picture attached. It has a stamp BF3 10#31 5-86 and also 11600-17 at the top. Is the replacement balancer 1031?

Thanks a lot for your help.

The 7#25 stamp code printed on your housing corresponds to the 24-737 Andersen sash balance. This would be my top recommendation, but please let me know if you had any questions. I'm happy to answer anything you need.

Thanks for posting. I am afraid I can't make out the all the stamps in your photos; however, if '725' is indeed one of the stamps, then my recommendation would be the 24-737. This will replace an old Andersen balance with the '725' stamp.

It looks like your stamp may actually be 5#23. The # may have worn away a bit over time, but I can just about make it out. If I'm right, you would need the 24-531 Andersen sash balances for your repair.

Thank you for contacting us and please let me know how else we can help!

I have anderson balancers that need replaced. The tab qith the number has a hole punched through it bit what i can see is R28 3 89. The box has 11600-17 which apparently is not useful but it also has 927 stamped on the other edge.

Hello:

Could you please let me know which balancer replaces this unit?

the # between the 9&27 is missing but I assume this = 9#27
04 R13 9 27 7-87
11600-17

Also for the same line of windows but smaller (sash weight), would there be different replacement balancers? I have a few other that are not yet broken strings but same vintage 1987/1989 installation.

Thank you!

Hi:
I just realized that both of these windows have smaller (lighter) upper than lower sash.
Is there a different tension in the Spring/cords - front and back?
Therefore a left/right unit or are they the same tension?

Numbers
04 R13 9_27 7-87
11600-17
*There was no # in the series.

Thank you

Hello,

The R13 9 27 stamp on your assembly corresponds to the 24-R13-927 Andersen sash balance. See the 24-L9-1327 for the opposite-handed version.

Please let me know if you had any further questions. We're always here to help.

Hi

Thank you for the above answer. I did go and look at the other side (Duh!) and it was stamped = 04 L9 1327 7-87

One last gut check question - is the Left/Right orientation form the outside looking at the window, or facing it from inside, as I might have assumed.

The reason to ask is the tension on the upper sash (still working cords) is so extremely tight - it's very hard to lower upper sash.

The unit above stamped left = L9 1327 was on the right looking from the inside of room.

Thanks!

Sure thing! Andersen actually determines handing from the outside looking in for these sash balances. So if your balance box is on the right when you're looking at your house from the outside, then you want the right-handed box.

Hopefully that makes sense. I'm happy to clarify anything you need, just let me know!
