Andersen operator ID.

I have has both 39-146 and 39-147. Neither quite fit.The number stamped on the top of the arm is all I have. Cleanup crew threw away the old operator.

Here are the only surviving pictures: What do I need to replace this.

Here is a picture of the window. From the inside.

the hinge is on the right when viewed from inside. So is this a left hand or a right hand crank?

Andersen does not refer to operators as right or left. Some manufacturers determined right or left from outside looking in, while others determined left and right from inside looking out. To avoid that confusion, they have removed the left/right nomenclature altogether. A comparison between the actual parts is the best way to make the correct selection. 39-146 is the replacement for the operator shown as "crank 2". It should operate the window in your photo.

I have the 39-146

Can't quite figure out how it attaches?

It should just screw to the sill, then the arm would attach to the bracket on the sash. Check out the two videos I've related to this page. The operators we feature are different, but the general principle of installation is the same.
