I'm preparing to repair a few original AW sash balances in my 1983 home. Starting with the smaller bathroom AW, I found the code "J85 5#23 383" stamped on the broken left balance. I did not remove the unbroken right side. Can you recommend the pair of sash balances from the above code? TYVM

See our 24-531. This is meant to replace Andersen balances that include the stamp code 523, or 5#23. This will work for both sides of the sash.

BOB, thanks for the info. On discovery, my other 2 AW used 9#27 balances so it appears that your 24-939 should be their replacements that I'll to add my order. Once again, TYVM.

Yes, you most likely need the 24-939, which does replace Andersen balances with the stamp 9#27 or 927. However, just be sure that these balances don't have the stamp code 'R13 927'. If so, that exact line of numbers corresponds to our 24-R13-927, which is only for the right-hand of the sash (The 24-939, like many of these Andersen balances, is non-handed).

I understand. My right window had two "F34 9#27 982", while the left window had two "E53 9#27 583". I could not find R13 anywhere on the four 9#27 balances.

Good to be thorough. The 24-939 seems to be what you're looking for then.
