I'm also curious what the 18-041 top sash guide acorn is used for..

Thanks for posting, Melissa. I think you're right; even though the bottom shoe doesn't look the same, the top fitting is more critical. Start with our Series 710 and 18-041 top sash guide, as you picked out.
