Awning crank

Question

I believe this is the original crank from house built in 1959.  It does not bolt into a plate, but screws directly into wood.  There are quite a few layers of paint and I don't see any identifying marks.

Hello! Thanks for reaching out to us. This is a very old operator that hasn't been made in a long time. Andersen, its manufacturer, never made a working substitute for it. However if you're handy then you you may be able to get our modern 39-390 to work.

Many customers in the past who tried out our 39-390 said that it worked well, but some others reported that the sash wouldn't close all the way due to the shoe hitting the end of the track. If this happens to you, you could try to mount the operator base a little further back on the sill. Alterations of both the sill and sill trim will likely be necessary either way, so keep that in mind. It won't be a seamless 1:1 replacement job but with a little work you should be able to get your window operational again.
