Awning window only opening slightly before getting stuck

Home Owner from Florida
Hi. My issue is the crank is working properly, but the window now only opens slightly then the crank feels like it gets stuck. Forcing the window open past this point by turning feels like it will break something. I am able to close the window, but now cannot open it more than just a crack. Is there a way to fix this problem so the window can open fully and freely as before?

There are two possible explanations for this problem. First, it's possible that you have a worn operator. The way to check this would be to remove your existing operator entirely and then try operating the window manually. If the window works freely, then the problem is most likely the operator and it needs to be replaced.

However, if the window is still hard to operate even without an operator, then the problem could be the the window linkage at the sides of the window.

Try this method to find out were your problem is and get back to me.

Hi, thank you for your reply. It turns out the problem was the second one you described, the side linkage wasn't moving freely. I removed the screen, opened the window as far as I could, sprayed some WD-40 on the joints of the linkage, and gently rocked the operator while holding the window until it eventually moved past the point where it was previously stuck. I was then able to fully lubricate the linkage and can now open the window as before. It is helpful to know I can replace the crank should I need a new one. Thank you SWISCO and thank you Dave Sr. for your help.
