Hello
I purchased 4 31" s600 red tipped balances for my tilt in windows. I took off 2 black tipped balances, took sash out of frame, replaced balances, and, by the time I finished, had turned spiral 14 times for window to work perfectly.
My first question is, "must I take window out of frame to install balances?"
Second question, "I have 8 windows! I bought 4 balances-if I purchase 10 more balances, could I get a discount?"
I replaced the black tipped balances with red tipped balances because it takes me and my wife to lift and close most of these windows!

Thanks for reaching out to us. To answer your first question: yes, you have to take the sash out of the frame to replace these balances. We have a video that shows how this can be done, which I'll share below.

In answer to your second question, we offer bulk pricing discounts for high-quantity orders of the same products, but it's not applied retroactively. Bulk pricing discounts are only applied for a single given order. It also does not apply to orders of multiple different sized balances. It would have to be the same balance in the same size with the same weight rating, purchased at the same time. You can see all pricing information on each product's respective store page.

One last note before you buy anything else: 14 turns on a spiral balance is a seriously high number of turns. That exceeds the recommended amount of turns by about 4x. You only want to give a spiral balance 3-4 turns to install; any more and you risk snapping the spiral free from the spring, which would irreparably break the balance. I know you said it worked perfectly, but this is something you really need to be mindful of. If you find that you have to turn a spiral more than 4 times, something has gone wrong.

As for the color tip, if you feel that the balances originally put in your window are too weak then you should weigh your sash on a scale to determine the proper color tip option. There is such a thing as a balance that's too strong; if the strength of the spring exceeds the weight of the sash, then you'll find yourself with the opposite problem in that the window is harder to close. It's best not to guess: weigh your sash so you know exactly which color tip option is the right part for the job.
