Balance Spring

Handy Person from Arkansas
My windows were built by a local company that is no longer in business. The balance springs have no markings or other form of ID.

They are approximately 3/8" in diameter and the tube is 28 7/8" long.

Most of my windows (6 lights)weight 15lbs but a couple of smaller 4 light windows only weight 10 lbs. They both have what appears to be the same spring. The nylon tip appears to be a faded yellow or off-white color.

I need the tool that winds the springs up and sets the hooks into the nylon guide.

Based on your dimensions, I recommend that you look at our S900-29 spiral balance. I recommend the Red Tip for both applications, since two S900-29 spiral balances can hold a window sash weight of 10 through 22 pounds.

For the tool, see our 75-006. You may also want to watch our video on how to replace this hardware.
