Will spiral Balances replace coil balances?

Are the spiral balances a good replacement for old coil spring balances?
I would like the finish of the exposed portion to be white.

Great question! People have replaced the coil spring set-up with a spiral balance and pivot shoe. The only issue is that the metal tube will be exposed when the lower sash is in the closed position.

thanks Paul. the tube is currently exposed but is grey plastic. The owner would prefer white. I will order a couple sets and try them.
Are there replacement tubes available?

Are you referring to the tube attached to the balance itself? I'm afraid these cannot be replaced. All of our balances have metal tubes.
