Balances for wood window fabricy

Professional from Oregon

Hello

We are making an order of new wood single hung windows and the job requires spiral balances.

Sashes are 36" wide by 30" high. 22 lbs. 1 3/4 thick material.

Question is which length to order to get full opening height for fire code egress. How much longer than the sash?

Also need part number for the clip for wood sash and non tilt adjustment tool.

Thank you

Donovan

For your bottom sash, I recommend the S500-29" non-tilt balance and for the sash weight, I would go with the red tip for a sash weight between 7-29 lbs. Below are generic directions for the Series 500 balance.

First, drop the balance behind the sash and screw it at the top of the window track with the 33-017 screw. Raise the sash and have someone hold it up, while you place the 17-012 bracket under the sash and have it corral the spiral. Screw the bracket to the sash. Continue holding up the sash while you bring the spiral up to the bracket. Now turn the spiral clockwise with the 75-005 tool about four turns. Then lock the bow tie at the end of the spiral to the 17-012 bracket. Do the same on the other side and try the sash. If it creeps down, give the spiral another turn.
