Balances missing from the window

A quick learner from United States says:
Hello there,

I need some help determining the correct window channel balances I need.

Pictures are attached of the sash and sides. There are no balances in the window and no other windows for me to look at.

The top window does not move so I just measured the bottom glass height. It is 16.5"h.

The overall height of the window is 41". The weight of the bottom sash is 13.1lbs.

Are you able to recommend the correct type of balances I need off of this information?

Thank you,

Harry

Thanks for contacting us, Harry. This is going to be a tough one. Without an original balance to use as a reference, there's no way for us to be 100% sure what you need. That said, I have an idea.

I think you should go with the Series 385 channel balance, which comes with a 19-005 top and 15-004 bottom nylon fitting. These fittings come with wings and the 15-004 especially is one of our larger options a 1-3/32" deep. My logic is, if your original balance didn't have fittings with wings then you can clip them off. Furthermore, if you needed a shallower show, you can always file the 15-004 depth down to size. You can always reduce, but it's a lot harder to add. Does that makes sense?

Now we have to figure out size. Can you give me the height of the visible glass? The length of the balance will be 1" longer than that measurement. For example, if the height of your visible glass is 20", you'd want a 21" long balance.

Finally, on each Series 385 store page, you'll find a weight chart. Once you know what length you need, just refer to that chart to determine what option is best for a 13.1 pound sash.

Let me know if you have any questions!

The height of the glass is 16.5". Should I get a 17" or 18" balance?

Thank you for the help and suggestion! Appreciate it.

Thank you! In that case, I suggest going with our S385-18 channel balance with a 1730 option for sashes weighing 12 through 14 pounds. Now, we cannot guarantee that this will work, but I think it's going to be your best bet. Let me know what you think!

A quick learner from United States says:
Sounds good. I'll try them out. Thank you!
