I am not able to open the window on the left side as the crank is slipping and just spins.

While the screw holes are 5 inches apart, the bar that I have is 4 1/2 inches long. Will that be a problem?

We haven't been able to locate a version of these operators with a 4-1/2" arm, unfortunately. Past customers in similar situations have used a drill to remove the rivet from the 39-187 to swap the 5" arm with the original 4-1/2" arm and attach it with a 62-014 rivet. If you're comfortable making these modifications, you may be able to adapt the new-style operator to work for your window.
