Thank you for your help! So the bracket as shown broke off. What do you recommend as a replacement?

Thanks

Hello! Thanks for posting. I recommend the 32-119 drawer bracket set. What you have here is the old Merillat socket, but they don't make these anymore. Fortunately I'm very confident that the 32-119 will work, the only catch is that you'll have to drill new holes for it to install.

Thank you! Question: what's the best way to remove the current backing? Doesn't appear to be screwed into the back.

These usually just plug into holes, kind of like a Lego. They'll be set in place pretty securely, but if you're firm then you should be able to "unplug" it without issue.

Just don't force it; I have known some installers who actually glue these in. Give it a little test pull first to make sure you don't break the back of the drawer. If it is glued in then you'll have to find some way to deal with that adhesive before you can take it out, which can be a bit of a mini project on its own.

Yes, it appears to be glued to the back. Any tips on how to remove? Thank you for your help!

Yeah, I figured that'd be the case. So, I just talked to my colleague, who has a lot of experience restoring old furniture. He had two ideas. The first was that you can try using a hair dryer to weaken the adhesive, then use a putty knife to pry it loose. The second was that you could use a commercial glue remover, soak a cloth with it, and then it should loosen after a time.

Personally speaking, I try to shy away from hair dryers or heat guns for this kind of thing. They definitely work well, but if you aren't careful then you risk damaging the actual dresser itself. Heat's no joke and the risk of warping is real. Just something to consider. If you want to go that path, then I advise using a light touch. Don't go too hard, only just use enough.

The glue remover solution would be what I'd pick. I recommend going to a local hardware store to see what brand they specifically recommend. That's some leg work though, and of course you gotta spend money, so you may find that the hair dryer is more convenient. It's ultimately up to you!
