Bracket is 1 5/8" including shelf (5/8")

Thanks for reaching out to us. You'd usually have to press in the upper flap of the bracket while applying pressure to the bottom of the shelf, lifting it up. You would then have to repeat the process with the other side. Just be careful when doing so as these types of brackets can be prone to breaking if you don't press the flap in accordingly.
