Broken Lock - UniFrame Crank-Out Window

Home Owner from Minneapolis, MN

Hi there,

The locking lever on my kitchen crank-out window is broken, with the window locked shut. There are no identifying markings visible on the window, but I suspect it to be a UniFrame like most of the other windows in the house. There is not another crank-out here for comparison. If I could identify and receive a replacement lock, I?d cut into the failed lock and attempt to remove it. Are you able to tell what replacement part might work? Any and all advice is welcome!

Thanks,Bryan

I'm afraid I cannot tell what you have while it's still installed. The most vital dimensions would be the hole spacing and the projection of the locking fork, both of which are obscured as long as this is installed. I've related a couple possible replacement options to this page that may be worth going over, but I can't narrow it down any further.

You will have to cut into the lock to remove it, like you mentioned, but this can be quite the project. It may not be a bad idea to contact a local professional to do it for you.

Hi Tom,

Thanks for your reply and advice. With a little more work, I was able to get the window unlocked and remove the broken latch. I've attached photos - are you able to tell what replacement part might work now?

Thanks again!

Great, thank you! I'm definitely more confident about the list I made, but I cannot quite make out your exact measurement based on your photos. It's hard to be precise with a tape measurer just held up to the part, and these dimensions can be pretty specific. I recommend carefully going over the dimensions for each part I listed to confirm the best match.
