Broken Pivot Lock Shoe

Home Owner from Baltimore, Maryland
Attached is two photos of the Pivot Lock Shoes (one is functional, the other one is shown as broken). The measured size is 2 3/8 inches high x 1 1/8" wide.

I hope this information is helpful. If not, I will try and gather additional window information.

Thank You for your time in this matter,
Frank

Hello, Frank. Please see our 15-118 pivot shoe and Series 600 spiral balance. The manufacturer who made your hardware has gone out of business but you should be able to use these parts as replacements. See what you think.

Hi Paul,

Thanks for the Pivot Shoe info. Prior to ordering the pivot shoes, should I also replace the spiral balance? I do have some other vinyl windows that are hard to open/close. What would be the remedy for this problem?

Thanks again for your advise,
Frank

If your spiral balance is still in working order, I don't see any reason to replace it. One way to check is to detach the balance from the shoe (you can use a tool like our 75-006 to do this), then give it a turn or two clockwise. If you feel the tension increase, then your balances are in good condition and can be reused. If not, then it may be time to replace them.

Thanks I will test the spiral balance tension.
But what would cause my other windows to become hard to open/close? Is this a spiral tension adjustment problem or do they require some type of lubrication?

It certainly could be either, or even both! Adjusting balance tension and lubricating the channels are both quick projects and we always recommend exhausting these first before considering purchasing new hardware.
