Broken Pivot Shoe Cam in a Uniframe Window

Question

I have Uniframe windows that are approximately 10 to 12 years old. The windows are double hung vinyl tilt in. I have 4 window sash that the cam is broken in the Pivot Shoe. The window sash are approximately 33.5"h x 27.5"w.

Can these be repaired and if so do I need to replace the counterbalance along with the shoe? I assume for now that the counterbalance & mounting screw need to be removed to remove the shoe?

Hi Terry,

Thanks for reaching out! Your balance pivot shoe looks like it could possibly be the 15-178 Pivot Lock Shoe. Although, to confirm that this is the right replacement, you will need to remove the shoe from the window channel and compare the dimensions shown below.

If the only thing damaged is the shoe, then you may not need to replace the balances but, ultimately, you will need to examine the balances to confirm that they are not damaged. There is a good chance you may need to replace them.

Should you decide to replace the balances, I'll need to know if the balances have a ribbed channel vs. a plain channel as well as the stamp from the channel and the length of it.

There are few videos below that detail how to remove the balances and how to remove the pivot shoes from the channel. There are two different methods you can use to remove the pivot shoe, so be sure to review them both to determine which might be the best option for you.
