Broken Single Hung Window - Side Spring - model 2320

A home owner from Vero, Florida says:

Hi my name is Jim nd I am need of your help. I purchased a home in Vero Beach, Fl in which I don't think the women opened the windows ever. The windows are all metal windows, with single panes of glass and two side springs to keep the windows open.

My wife is a fresh air freak and the first night down we opened the windows in the bedroom and a couple of pieces of plastic tab broke off and now the window will not stay up. I watched a couple of online YouTube Videos and this Old House on how to repair them and it looks very easy.

It would be easy if the springs were not rusted of course and if they had been oiled.

So I took the windows down and tried to WD40 the window springs but I think that they are pretty far gone at this point. On the existing springs I needed to pull out the clips on both sides of the window for the springs to catch onto. But the top of the window where the other plastic tab should be and pushes against the sprint are both broken. I think that I gave you the correct numbers - 2320 of the number we found on the side spring.

I wasn't to start with two windows and if I can fix them with your parts then I will check the other 10 windows to see if they need to be repaired or replaced.

Can you please contact me and let me know how I can go forward with you on this project?

Jim

Hello, Jim. We can definitely help with both parts you need, which are called a top sash guide and channel balance. Regarding the top sash guide, I would like a clear photo of an undamaged version, if you have one. Dimensions would also be a big help.

For the channel balance, I need to see an undamaged version out of the window. The stamp you gave me isn't a product code, that just indicates the calibration of the spring. The video below will go into more detail as to exactly what I need to make a recommendation.

This is a reply to Tom from Swissco about more information needed on my guide issues. Tom I hope these work out for what you need.

Thanks, Jim! Based on what I see here, you have either our S380-24 or S385-24, depending on the depth of the bottom shoe. That's the only difference between them. I recommend measuring your shoe and referring to our dimensions to confirm the best match.

Tom from SWISCO responded:

Great. In that case, you would need the Series 380, as indicated above.

Let me know if you had any other questions.

A home owner from Vero, Florida says:

How do I order them?

Do I just put in the Series 380 and the length?
