Broken "balance"???

A home owner from Bethlehem PA says:

Hello,

The window won't stay up. I think I need to replace the fuzzy stuff that lines the window vertically. Also, any suggestions on the large gap would be appreciated.

Thank you.

Thanks for posting, Ivette. The fuzzy stuff you mentioned is weatherstripping, but that doesn't have anything to do with keeping the window up. It's more likely you need new balances. These are the spring tubes on either side of the window.

The good news is that you have spiral balances. You may be able to simply wind them up a little to give them some tension back. This is a unique feature to this specific kind of balance. I recommend using our 75-006 tool. We have a couple videos that should be helpful to you, too. They tell you not only how to charge these balances, but also how to identify and replace them.

I'm not sure what's causing the gap. It could be that winding your balances will help the issue. If it doesn't, let me know and we can try to come up with a solution.
