Broken crank

Question

The crank handle of my window. Pops out when I try to close the window. I tried to reattach the mechanism inside the handle. But will not tighten down inside the casing. Every time I go to close the window it pops out.

It sounds like the gears are stripped out. This can often happen if the handle is over-torqued, or even just from normal wear-and-tear over the years.

The bad news is that this is not something that can be repaired. Once the gears are stripped, the operator is dead. You need an entirely new one.

I'd be happy to advise with that, but I will need to see the operator removed from the window in its entirety so that we can find a match. At the very least, I'll need you to open the window and show me as much of it as possible, but please understand that if it's still installed then some important details may be hidden from us.
