Broken door handle

Quick Learner from Maryland

I broke the handle off the Anderson sliding door which operates the lock/latch. We didn't remove it because it's a main exit and if we can't put it back our house wouldn't be safe. We are using a screw driver to lock and unlock it

Thank you!

Hi Carol,

Thanks for reaching out to us! Your Andersen Thumb Lever can be replaced with the 82-043 Andersen Tribeca Thumb Latch.

Were you also looking to replace the internal mortise lock? If so, I'll need to see a photo of the keeper it interacts with to determine the correct replacement.

Please don't hesitate to reach out with any questions you might have.

The mortise piece doesn't appear to be damaged or does need to be replaced along with the lock handle as a routine thing? Also, will this be easy for me to install by myself? Is this part something I can find locally or should I order it from you?

We can lock and unlock the door by putting a flat head screw driver in the remaining piece of the broken handle. Does this indicate that the rest of the mechanism is ok?

Thank you!Carol

I believe the thumb latch lever should be fairly simple to install; however, that will be dependent on how handy you are.

Regarding the mortise lock, it sounds like it is still functioning based on what you've described. If you do not believe it needs to be replaced, then it is not a requirement.

Unfortunately, I wouldn't be able to confirm if this is available nearby in another store. They can be purchased directly from our website.
