Broken hinge for locking mechanism

Home Owner from Montana
The plastic hinge for the locking mechanism broke. There are no markings on the handle or door, there is only a sticker on the door which is posted in the pictures.

Hello,

Our 82-030 can replace your handle set with the top-mounted thumb lever without adaptation as long as the 3-15/16" installation hole spacing matches yours. What's confusing is that the original handle doesn't look like it has a centered latch since the thumb lever itself is, for whatever reason, mounted above both screw holes. The reality is that when that thumb lever is turned, an internal arm mechanism reaches down the spindle and turns it as shown in your photo. Our 82-030 works the same way but its thumb lever is centered already. It doesn't need that additional (and redundant) arm mechanism.

Unforutnately, we do not carry a mortise lock that would work as a replacement for yours. I'm sorry that we won't be able to assist with this part of the repair but please let us know if you have any other hardware questions. Thanks for posting.

Would I have to get a new mortise lock, or would the 82-030 handle be able to turn my current lock in the same way?

Would it be possible to go with 82-030A (which appears to be a keyed version of the 82-030?

Also, on my door there is the metal base plate which does not appear to fit the 82-030. I assume I would just remove this base plate and install the 83-030 directly to the door?

Thanks,
John

The 82-030 should work with your original mortise lock as long as it is still in good condition. You are also correct that the metal plate would need to be removed before you install the 82-030. The plate will no longer be needed since our handle set doesn't have the same offset hook that extends between the pull and the base. If you decide to give it a try and run into any problems, our return policy can be found here

Great. Thanks for the info. Were you able to check and see if the 82-030A would work?

I'm sorry for the confusion. The 82-030A keyed version of the 82-030 would also work with your mortise lock.
