Broken window latch needs to be replaced

I have broken window latches in nearly my entire house. The house is about 28 years old. Ideally, I'm looking to replace the latch with the same latch type (so it looks the same). I had a window repair place come out and they said my type of latch is being phased out and they couldn't find any of the kind I have. They recommended a 'Universal surface mount tilt latch'. Before doing this, I wanted to check with you to see if the part I have is no longer available. Also, I'd like to see what the new 'Universal surface mount tilt latch' would look like once it's installed.

Thanks,
Robin

Hi there Robin.

Thanks for reaching out to us. I'm afraid I can't ID what you have from this picture alone. The best match for your release lever depends on the size and spacing of the forks. You'll need to measure the distance between the two prongs on the underside, as well as the overall width of both prongs. We carry a few different types like the 26-234 but you will need to remove an undamaged version and compare the dimensions to see if this matches up. You can see our entire selection of sash release levers here

If none match up, you might want to see if you could convert to a surface mount latch depending on the space you have. Take a look at the video below that will guide you through every step of this process. You'll then need to find a tilt latch that will fit the space available; we have detailed dimensions in each case that you can use as a reference.

Hi Emily,

I think some of my additional information on my broken latches didn't make it to this thread. Here's the additional information. See the picture for an example of the broken latch part. The measurements of the latch are:

width: 1-7/8"
length: 2-1/16"
leg length (of latch part): 1/4"

Hope this helps to be able to identify the replacement parts.

We don't sell a latch with your exact specifications. The 26-234 latch actuator has 1/4" long legs when measured as shown below. You'll have to compare the rest of the specifications with an undamaged latch to see how they match up. Take a look and see what you think.
