Broken window sash springs
I have two windows with this kind of mechanism. One is a 3' x 3' and the other is 3 foot wide by 5 foot tall.
Hello,
It looks like you have a type of old-style rod balance that is no longer made. The good news is that we can supply modern replacements in most cases but we would need to see an intact balance fully removed from the window. Please make sure to inside the bottom fitting and the top of the balance where it installs. Thank you!
Thanks for getting back to us. Your old-style rod balance can be replaced by the S775 channel balance, which uses the same type of hook shoe. You'll need to remove yours from the window to determine the shoe size needed for your replacements. You'll also need to weigh the sashes from the larger and smaller windows to choose the corresponding strength options for your replacement balances. There is a chart on the product page that explains how to choose your option based on the sash weight.
As for the length that can be tricky since your larger balances are all broken. Your best bet would be to remove the intact balance from your smaller window to measure the exact length of the rod, as well as the height of the visible glass in the sash that the balance supports. Once you determine how the balance length corresponds to the glass height, you can use the height of the glass in the larger window sash to determine the approximate length needed for those balances. Keep in mind that there is a margin for error since there are no intact balances to measure. If you decide to give them a try and run into any problems, our return policy can be found here.
